When I think of Labor Day family trips, my mind automatically goes to camping. I’ll admit, having two young children quickly discourages those thoughts, so when I stumbled across the AutoCamp Sonoma, this is exactly what I had dreamed up in my mind.

There’s a WholeFoods and Trader Joe’s in Santa Rosa that you can stop at on your way to the property, which makes stocking up on groceries, snacks and family essentials easy. They also sell basics and supplies at the General Store, so if you forgot something, no stress.
Fall in Sonoma is beautiful, and there will be plenty to do while enjoying all of the nature around you. This is one of those trips where the slower moments can be just as memorable as the planned ones... mornings outside, afternoons exploring and evenings gathered around the fire.
Beyond the stay, families can enjoy horseback riding, mini golf and even indoor ice skating at Snoopy’s Home Ice in Santa Rosa. Fun fact: Charles M. Schulz, the American cartoonist behind Peanuts and Snoopy, called Santa Rosa home for decades. The Charles M. Schulz Museum is right next door, making it an easy and surprisingly fun addition to a family trip.
You can also spend time among the redwoods at Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve, float/kayak the Russian River or venture farther out for a day along the Sonoma Coast.
And because this is Sonoma, parents can still enjoy a little bit of wine country along the way. There are wineries and tasting experiences throughout the area that welcome families, allowing you to experience what makes Sonoma special without planning an adults-only itinerary.
